Serenity graduated with high distinction from Indiana University with her bachelor’s degree in medical anthropology and minor in psychology. Ever since she has been fascinated with the impact culture and society has on our perceptions and experiences of health, healing, and wellness. She then moved to Brooklyn, where she completed her doctorate in physical therapy at Long Island University- Brooklyn, graduating magna cum laude and with the distinct honor of receiving the Rosemary Gianuzzi Memorial Award for her acts of service in the physical therapy profession and the community.

Serenity has completed formal clinical training in pelvic floor rehabilitation, orthopedics, and functional manual therapy in outpatient clinics in Chicago and Manhattan, as well as in neurologic rehab at Rusk Rehabilitation New York University Medical Center and inpatient pediatrics and oncology at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Serenity has attended further advanced education and training in pelvic floor rehabilitation, pregnancy and postpartum care, orthopedics, visceral mobilization, and functional manual therapy techniques through Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute, APTA’s Section on Women’s Health, and the Institute of Physical Art.

Through her own lifelong struggle with chronic pelvic pain and dysfunction, self-study, formal education, and clinical practice, Serenity discovered a passion for practicing pelvic health physical therapy and therapeutic yoga. She feels deeply called to explore the topics of shame and taboo surrounding pelvic health and break down those social and cultural barriers through narrative medicine, education, and physical therapy. Serenity is a firm believer in a holistic approach that seeks the root of pelvic health and dysfunction through all of its domains- physical, emotional, social, intellectual, environmental, and spiritual- and believes that addressing each is essential to overall wellness. Her clinical interests are pelvic pain and constipation.

In addition to being a doctor of physical therapy, Serenity is a certified prenatal and postpartum fitness specialist and is pursuing certification as a yoga instructor. She has also served as a medical volunteer for the NYC Marathon since 2016, providing skilled orthopedic care to runners. She loves helping individuals achieve their fitness and wellness goals!

Serenity is actively engaged in the physical therapy community and is a member of the APTA, NYPTA, Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy, and Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy. In 2018 she served as the onsite coordinator for the APTA Choose PT Campaign in NYC for televised shows such as the Today Show and Good Morning America and has helped to organize APTA sponsored PT Advocacy Dinners and PT Pub Nights over the last couple of years.

Outside of the clinic, Serenity enjoys practicing yoga, running, cooking whole food meals, lounging at home with her husband and fur babies, and making ceramics.
