Stuart RIchard Friedman

I have been working in the field of mind-body psychotherapy and healing for the past 30 years, with training and certification in Somatic Experiencing (emphasizing the neurophysiological approach to trauma), Hakomi Body-Centered Psychotherapy (emphasizing the developmental approach to transforming limiting core embodied beliefs) and Hellinger Family Systems (emphasizing the intergenerational effects of trauma on the family and its individual members). I also maintain my license as a Massage Therapist in New York, (with training in Biodynamic Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Shiatsu, Jin Shin Jyutsu, Polarity Therapy, Applied Kinesiology and Yoga Therapy) incorporating mindful touch, when appropriate, in helping clients access cellular memory and release psychological and physical trauma from the soma, organ and nervous systems and the fluid body. I also incorporate the teachings of Emotionally Focused Couple's Therapy (Sue Johnson's present-centered, attachment-based approach in working with couples), the Modern Analytic school of group therapy (emphasizing present-centered corrective emotional expression between therapist and patient or members in a group), Jungian body-centered dream work and the understanding of Pia Melody's work in the field of codependency and addiction in my working with individuals, couples, groups and supervisees. My own journey into many of the world’s spiritual traditions and meditation practices informs and expands upon the work I do in therapy, particularly in the practical applications of stillness and compassion as a resource in mine and my patient's embodied experience.
