Whether you have multiple therapies under your belt, or are exploring therapy for the first time, the following thoughts may give you an idea of what working with me might be like.

Starting point: Thoughtful consideration of the fact that you are where you are today because you’ve done what you needed in order to survive. Your symptoms, whether emotional (e.g. anxiety, depression), behavioral (e.g., compulsive behaviors, unsatisfying relationships) or physical (e.g., chronic pain, ongoing fatigue), have served to support your survival.

Endgame: A future self that is more enlivened, more in your own skin, and more equipped to better navigate relationships and work. People sometimes liken this part of the therapeutic process to “coming home” to themselves, whether more deeply or for the first time.

What you need to bring: Curiosity about yourself is primary, including inquisitiveness about the narrative you’ve developed to tell your story, and what your body may have to contribute to the process of building a more enlivened life.

How it works: From our first encounter, you begin teaching me about you, about how to be with you, about what you need and don’t need, in order for us to work together. Together, we work to create a safe enough working relationship for you to optimally take in and make use of the tools I will bring to your particular situation based on my more than 20 years of experience as a psychologist.
