I believe in the innate healing ability of the body and hold a deep respect for the body’s wisdom. With over 11 years’ experience as a bodyworker, it is always my goal to create a safe space for healing. I use a unique blend of body-based methods and tools to help my clients calm their nervous system, increase the feeling of safety in their bodies and develop trust in themselves. These are tools they can use in their daily life as well.
Most people spend their lives shoving emotions down or trying to avoid feeling them in various other ways. This never ends well. No matter how much we want them to, they do not go away. They are still there, needing to be seen and acknowledged. In time, these parts that we do not want to feel can show up as unwanted emotions or behaviors and/or health issues.
Humans are social beings, and we need connection with people who are present, nonjudgmental, safe and compassionate as old energy shifts and new neural networks are created in our brains. The ultimate goal is to create a strong, holistic connection with oneself, others, and the larger source of life. Over time this work leads to personal transformation, a fulfilling life, and ever-increasing well-being.
“Somatic” means body oriented. Holistic healing encompasses the physical, emotional and spiritual parts of us. Sessions are an exploration of sensations, emotions, images and more, which leads to a decrease in excess activation in the nervous system. My understanding as a trauma-informed bodyworker helps sculpt collaborative sessions based on my client’s needs. During sessions I ask my clients to be willing to look at the difficult or scary places that are stuck. This can be challenging but has huge rewards. When people are not in a hurry and hold these places with curiosity, openness and compassion, change is possible and the possibility of something new emerges.
People often work with a current or past life-situation that is bothering them or a memory that is still activating when they think about it. Feelings can persist like fear, annoyance, anger, regret, shame, sadness, disappointment, etc. Or people procrastinate or have something blocking them from creating what they want. We gently explore whatever comes up and be with it. Spending time with the uncomfortable sensation or emotion literally changes the part of the brain where it is stored. There can be one, several or many layers to it. We are with the cycles of activation as they arise and pass. Eventually clients come to a place of peace and/or insight regarding that subject. When this work is done continually, people are more able to create the things they want in life, whether it be loving, supportive relationships, financial prosperity, better health, peace, joy and so much more. Some situations in life may not go away, but with this work I help my clients build inner capacity which helps them be with the harder issues in life.
