Jarron Magallanes

​My name is Jarron Magallanes and I am a NYC-based psychotherapist. Wherever you are in your life I want to work with you to help guide you through the complex journeys that we all face and provide you with the skills that you need to lead a life that is rich and fulfilling.

Both personally and professionally I am fully dedicated to improving the lives of gay men. My work tends to be open-ended and long-term as we can explore together the complexities, challenges and opportunities that situate in our lives.

I received my Master of Science degree from Columbia University and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Washington. I am also trained and a certified practitioner by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). I have completed training through Somatic Experiencing® International and can practice as a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP).

I am licensed to practice clinical social work and provide psychotherapy services in the State of New York (LCSW-R #: R080937), am a vetted member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW) through the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and am a Board-Certified Diplomate (BCD) in Clinical Social Work through the American Board of Examiners. I serve on faculty at Columbia University where I teach social work practice and research courses to graduate students. I also teach Continuing Education (CE) courses on working clinically with LGBT persons.

I use an integrative treatment approach in which humanistic and existential principles guide our treatment, allowing our work together to bring about a deeper understanding of self and sense of purpose. I am also certified to provide EMDR Therapy (http://www.emdr.com/what-is-emdr) for the treatment of trauma and other related conditions, an evidence-based therapy developed by Francine Shapiro, PhD.
