RFN Functional Nutrition I graduated from General Nursing and Midwifery in March 1981 and March 1982, respectively.
Since then I have worked in Medical/Surgical/ ICU/Coronary ICU/Neonatal ICU. These areas were predominantly covered in South Africa and Canada. In Melbourne, Australia most of my work centered on Community Nursing, Drug and Alcohol Addiction, the Homeless population and Psychiatry.
As a registered nurse, I have always understood the power of food and the need for primary intervention before the deterioration into the disease state, but it was only after stumbling, quite serendipitously, upon the power of the elimination diet, that I truly understood that food is a messenger, imparting information uniquely to each individual.
As a result of my own health challenges, I searched for a course that could marry functional medicine and nutrition. When I first arrived in South Africa there was nothing like it available.
And then voila, one day, I fortuitously stumbled onto the IFNA website- and I knew that this was it!
What I love about IFNA is its emphasis on ‘the whole’, the psychological, the spiritual – those aspects not generally associated with nutrition but no less vital as components in health and healing.
My interests lie in Fibromyalgia and CFS, because I feel personnel experience can offer a client real resonance, but I will also be seeing patients with GIT and Oncology issues as I will be working with a Hepato- Biliary Practice.
